Prior to founding Mobile First Media, LLC and Digital Healthcom Group, John served as a director of integrated marketing, communications and public relations for more than 20 years at organizations including Roswell Park Cancer Institute, the University at Buffalo and the Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers (a community behavioral health and social services agency).

John also previously worked in the advertising/broadcast industry as a professional copywriter. Throughout his career thus far, he has written and/or produced more than 2,500 scripts that helped to achieve results for a wide variety of clients.

During his decade-long tenure at Roswell Park, his work helped to raise over $200 million for cancer research, treatment and capital programs. John also directed marketing and promotional strategy, co-branding and fulfillment programs with cause-related partners including DuPont, Dunkin' Brands, New Era Cap, Fisher-Price, Coca-Cola Buffalo Bottling Co., NHL and Olympic goalie Ryan Miller's Steadfast Foundation and more.

While serving as the Director of Integrated Communications for the University at Buffalo, John’s portfolio included leading and/or managing projects for the Office of the President, Office of Government and Community Relations, UB's School of Public Health and Health Professions, School of Dental Medicine, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the School of Social Work.

His business and solo consulting services include integrated traditional, digital and related communications and marketing solutions. Current offerings include:

  • Communication planning, audits and integrated marketing and digital research, strategy and training
  • Tactical communications including copywriting (all styles), video content or animation development, web and/or app project direction and leadership, 360-degree social media (from counsel to tactical guidance, measurement and reporting/analytics), blogging strategy and content, google analytics/measurement and general project direction and outsourcing services.

As a consultant, John has assisted businesses from start-ups to multi-billion-dollar corporations. He has been a guest contributor to mHealth News, the international blog of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS); and also for Digital Health, LinkedIn’s largest mobile and digital health group, with more than 37,000 members.

He recently was a volunteer member of the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Cancer Trends Progress Report Usability Review Committee and offered feedback to NCI regarding its draft new website for the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program—the go-to source of cancer statistics for oncology professionals, patients and the lay public.

He is currently an executive committee member and sponsorship chair of the PRSA Health Academy, a section of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) representing more than 750 healthcare and pharmaceutical communications professionals. John also is the immediate past chair of the PRSA Northeast District, which represents the interests of more than 1,000 communications professionals between Maine and Pennsylvania.

He speaks regionally and nationally about digital communications, marketing, strategy and the mobile industry. He was quoted in The Washington Post in May, 2014 about the “Internet of Things” movement, as part of his participation in an invitation-only survey coordinated by the Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project.
